Hi all, I'm building robotics company, and have been pleasantly inspired by the open source nature of ROS2 and the broader robotics community. However, I'm a little disappointed in the tools and resources for getting a startup off the ground as well as managing it. Everything seems like a bit of a black box and feel like some sort of open source concept for this would be nice to have. A bit of a rant here: I have needed to go through incorporation, set up cap tables, figure out what legal docs to issue, set up a data room. Haven't found any tools that are intuitive for founders. Carta for example is a pain in the ass just for basic set up. As far as legal docs and board consents go, it turns out they are needed for most things so can just print out a Y Combinator SAFE, docs sent need to then be tied to the cap table and these docs live in different locations depending on the tools used. Many platforms say they have all docs, but only have a handful which a lot of times cant be edited or customized. Seasoned founder know there are about 50 different templates used by a startup, depending on what the action needed is at the time. Other platforms that may have more thorough docs are impossible to navigate. I have already had to pay several $k in legal fees to clean things up and my preference is to do a lot of this in house vs bring in lawyers. The steps themselves are actually quite simple, but it seems its being gate keeped for no reason...founders take the hit down the line. Id like to help us founders and build a platform that gives us everything we need with an enterprise and intuitive feel. Please either tell me if im missing the mark and something like this already exists (that I completely overlooked) or would love input on what other founders would like. If there is enough of a need by the broader community I'll build this in public. My thoughts are: Incorporations to cap table. At least Delaware C Corp. Enterprise level cap table, meaning rsus, warrants etc in addition to the basics. Also deep legal doc templates. Scales to IPO so dont need to switch down the line and rego through all of this Easy to use actions on all key actions like issuing options, onboarding employees, creating a funding round, signatures on platform and syncing to cap table. More importantly easy for a founder to navigate the steps. Multi-scenario modeling with clear insights. Flat rate/transparent pricing. Compliance reminders on 83bs, and tax form outputs like 39211,409a optionality on platform Data room, CRM for tracking investors, and investor comms. Additionally, some way to showcase the funding round and key details either in public or private. I can foresee a deal page that founders can interact on and invest. AI integration o better understand the cap table info as well as walk through actions. A community discord where founders help each other out, share templates that have worked (essentially reduce the need for legal input) What else should we add in? What other integrations would be beneficial? Perhaps integrating with banking for fund transfers when fundraising, Hr/employee data, but this may be overkill....The banking tools we are using are solid so wouldn't reinvent, but integrating could be valuable.
How can I legally structure a task-based deposit & reward app without losing money to App Store/payment fees?
I want to build an app where users put money down and get part of it back by completing tasks. How can I structure this legally and avoid excessive platform/payment fees? I’m exploring an app idea where users deposit a fixed amount of money upfront. They then have a set of tasks/goals to complete, and whenever they successfully complete a task, a portion of their deposited amount is returned to them. For example: \- User deposits ₹1,000. \- They have 20 tasks to complete. \- Each completed task unlocks ₹50. \- If they complete all 20 tasks, they receive the full ₹1,000 back. \- If they miss tasks, the corresponding amount may not be returned, depending on the rules of the system. The main issue I’m trying to understand is the economics and payment infrastructure. If the app is distributed through the Google Play Store / Apple App Store, and users are making payments inside the app, would the platform’s payment policies or service fees apply to this model? Similarly, payment gateways such as Razorpay, Cashfree, Stripe, etc. would also take a transaction fee. If I’m dealing with relatively small amounts per user, these fees could potentially make the model unviable. So I’d really appreciate advice from people who have built apps involving wallets, deposits, refunds, incentives, subscriptions, rewards, or task-based payments. Specifically: 1. Would Google Play or Apple allow this type of payment model? 2. Would I be required to use their in-app payment systems, or can I use an external payment gateway? 3. If I use Razorpay/Cashfree/etc., what are the typical costs and restrictions I should be aware of? 4. Is there a legitimate way to structure the payment flow so that app-store fees don't apply? 5. Would this model be considered a wallet, escrow, reward system, financial service, or something else from a regulatory perspective in India? 6. Are there any RBI, consumer-protection, taxation, or other regulations I should investigate before building it? 7. If someone has built a similar product, what payment architecture did you use? I’m not looking for ways to bypass fees illegally. I’m trying to understand how companies legally structure this kind of product so that the unit economics work. Hi, I’ve been running my talent agency for about 2 years now, and my roster has grown to around 15 active influencers. Our main business model is securing brand deals for them and facilitating the payments. But honestly, tracking which brands have actually paid us, calculating exactly who I owe money to after taking my commission, and managing our own agency cash flow is becoming a complete nightmare. PayPal closed my dispute early on a June 26 GPU sale, changed deadlines without notice, and permanently limited my account — seller risk?
I’m posting here because this situation feels less like a one‑off dispute and more like a business‑risk issue that small sellers should be aware of when using PayPal for marketplace transactions. On June 26, I sold a GPU on Facebook Marketplace and used PayPal to receive the payment. The buyer claimed the GPU was defective. PayPal opened a dispute and displayed an evidence deadline of August 27. I immediately took the GPU to a repair shop for diagnostics. After I dropped it off, PayPal changed the deadline to August 18 without notifying me. They then closed the dispute early, before the diagnostics were finished and before I could upload any evidence. The buyer won automatically and kept both the GPU and the refund. Because PayPal refunded the buyer, my account went negative. To recover financially, I later resold the exact same GPU on Swappa, with full diagnostics and verification photos. It sold with zero issues, confirming the original buyer’s claim was false and allowing me to bring my PayPal balance back above zero. Shortly after the dispute closed, PayPal permanently limited my account, citing vague “financial performance” language with no specific transaction or violation. They said the decision is final, and my remaining funds are now held for 120 days. From a small‑business perspective, this raises concerns: • PayPal changed a dispute deadline without notifying the seller. • The dispute was closed before evidence could be submitted. • A false buyer claim resulted in a loss of product and payment. • My account went negative because of the premature closure. • I had to resell the item elsewhere to recover the loss. • PayPal permanently limited my account immediately afterward. • Funds are locked for 120 days, impacting cash flow. Which Invoice Generator Would You Recommend to a New Freelancer?
I'm at the point where I need to stop making invoices manually, but I'm not ready to add another monthly subscription to my expenses. Okay so here's my situation: I started camming about a week ago, I've made $3,620. I use SC, so I they don't take the taxes out for me. I'm 18, and my parents don't know I do this. They also still claim me as a dependent. I can't tell them, but I also have no idea how to do taxes or even when I'm suppose to start. I also heard we have to pay quarterly for self-employment? I also have a real day job, but there's no way they would believe I make that much from my minimum wage job that cuts hours like crazy. Needing to migrate from Squarespace as can’t in good faith support their insatiable greed and sheer absence of client care. I started with an $18 a month bog standard template that suited my drag & drop capabilities, & today three years on, my billing is $60 for the exact same site. I’m reposting a post from a while ago that I made in r/fintech. Since then, I’ve completed the build of my platform and the last remaining piece is the payment processing. I’ve talked to quite a few providers including Modern Treasury (too expensive atm), Finix and Stripe. I’m currently trying to decide between Finix which has monthly fees and Stripe OR a completely different processor that maybe can do the same and also provide internal transfers between accounts. I have a core marketing agency that I built using Found as the foundation of for banking. 0/10, do not recommend and hate it but feel a little stuck because I use it for all my bookkeeping, tax, and banking. But it's such a pain, it's not compatible with anything, the debit card is not treated like a debit card anywhere, it isn't friendly with PLAID etc. Anyway, starting a secondary business for some side hustle stuff and won't be making the same mistake. Between the three of us, I think we will max out at about 30 clients a week. things picked up pretty well since I launched, but I don’t have a good handle on costs, expenses, profits. Looking for a recommendation of an app to help schedule lessons and keep track of payments! Willing to pay for an app, but would prefer if it wasn't a monthly subscription. Currently I use Google Calendar and Venmo and ask parents to include the date of the lesson on Venmo. Google calendar will only let me schedule one time lessons or weekly, and I have many students who do biweekly so that's a pain. It's also a lot to cross reference GC and Venmo to see if students are paid up.
